Can You Hear Me Now?
Listening skills are very important to people of any age. Sometimes adults need more help in listening skills than children. Reading to young children is a great way to expose them to new vocabulary and to help teach them about different topics in certain subjects and can also teach them important social skills. This week I used the GarageBand app and recorded myself reading My Monster Mama Loves Me So by Laura Leuck. This was one of my favorites as a kid.You can listen to it here.
It did take me a while to figure out how the use the app since there are so many features. On top of regular audio recording, there are different instruments you can play with and you can record songs. The app could be useful in music classes to create songs and have students express themselves. It could also be great for students to learn about the different instruments and how they sound. Students could also use the app to record a song or rap about a topic learned in class as a project in any class, not just a music class. I think that it is a bit hard for younger kids to figure out but if the teacher knows how it works he or she can assist the students in using it.
The audio recording part of the app could be helpful for teachers to record lessons for students that are auditory learners. It could also be great to record audio of books and help kids learn how to read. Teachers could also use the app to produce music to create a song or rap that could be used for learning a new topic.
The GarageBand app is a very cool app for kids and teachers to use. The only limitation is that it is only on Apple products and I am not sure if there is an equivalent to this app on non-Apple products. Schools with iPad programs should definitely use this app.
